Ramayan Greatest Indian epic poem which narrates the journey of the virtuous Lord Ram who lived during the Treta Yug, millennia BC. The Ramayan is composed of chapters or sargas, which are grouped into books, called Kandas. Kandas literally means the inter-node stem of the Sugar cane plant, or in this case, a particular phase of a story or an event in the course of story telling. The Ramayana is an ancient Sanskrit epic it tells the story of a prince, Rama of Ayodhya, whose wife Site is abducted by the demon king of Lanka, Ravana. Rama is the hero of this tale and he is portrayed as an incarnation of the god Vishnu. He is the eldest and the favorite son of the King of Ayodhya, Dasaratha.The Ramayana follows the life of Rama and his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana and even today is a very important part of Indian mythology and culture.
